A lot of people ask what goes into a build event and creating a Prusa Kit for the build events. I took some pictures of one of the kits which I put together for the recent build event. The goal of a build event is to ensure that everyone walks away with a working printer that they know how to operate and maintain. To achieve success, it requires quite a bit of organization and planning.

I’ve been working on adding an LCD to my prusa. I’m most interested in being able to display the status as it moves, but I’ve rigged up an SDRAMPS board to help reduce the overhead on the serial communication. In the below gallery, you’ll find a small LCD, a large LCD, and a special mount for my Prusa frame. I’ve modified the firmware to optimize the display and remove the need for a rotary encoder.

A week or two ago I ran across a deal on an air filter for my laser cutter.  This one is made by the manufacturer for use in malls when you can’t exhaust externally.  It is turned on and off via USB through the software, so it is very convenient.  I tested it out and it works great!!!!  I ran it cutting acrylic for about 2 minutes and there was absolutely no smell.  See the pictures below.

For Jen I decided I would make her something special.  This year I printed a geared heart for her.  I think it came out pretty nice.

We just completed our first build event for repraps in Nashville. We have 9 builders, 8 of which were present. Seven of the builders did deluxe kits which included Ramps, linear bearings, a machined Y build plate, precision hardened rods, Makergear plastruder, and a lasercut electronics enclosure.

Two of the builders did basic kits which included Sang boards, printed lm8uu substitutes, and Makergear hotends. The build was a great success. Below are some pictures.
